The Ancient banian tree of Bao Hamlet (Tan Lac district)

29/12/2012 17:00
This ancient banian tree is over 200 years old. To measure its circumference by joining arms around the trunk would take as many as 44 people.

This tree, originates from a banian branch which traditionally was used as a tent pillar for a newlywed couple. During the resistance wars fought against the French and Americans, this tree served as a safe shelter for troops. Nowadays, in the shade of this magnificent tree, villagers often gather together to chat and have a drink. Sitting under the tree at night, basked in moon light, one feels dwarfed by the infinitive universe that unfolds above.
