Hoa Binh City, a city directly under the provincial government, was recognized on October 27, 2006, as the administrative and socio-economic centre of Hoa Binh Province.
The city lies on the two banks of the Da River, at the base of Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant. Sites of interest include Ngoi Communal House, Hoa Binh Prison, Tien Phi Grotto and the great and old ironwood forest in Dan Chu Communal House.
