The Water Cave and Thien Ton Grotto lie inside the two mountains adjacent to each other, Nuoc and Mieu, in the complex of 99 mountains in Ngoc Luong commune, Yen Thuy district. Inside the Thien Ton Grotto are a numerous stalagmites and stalactites in marvellous and fascinating shapes. The cool, clear water in the cave infiltrates hundreds of meters into the mountain.

On the occasion of New Year's Festival or other festive events such as a new house inauguration, wedding ceremonies, “Xec Bua” or “Thuong Dang, Bo Meng" singing are often organized in praise of peaceful, happy of Muong villages, and also their wish and desire for a better and well-off life. Besides, each ethnic group has its own forms of cultural activities, for example, pan-pipe dance of the Mong, drum dance, xenh tien dance, the bell dance of the Dao and the spreading dance of the Thai.

Le Loi's stone stele

Archaeological sites vestiges of the Hoa Binh culture

In 1926, a French archaeologist, Madelene Colani, conducted a survey of caves and grottoes in the limestone mountain valley of Hoa Binh province. There, Colani carried out the excavation of 20 archaeological sites, discovering a rich collection of objects, the majority of which were stone tools made by striking or paring stream cobbles in a rudimentary way. After the excavation results, in her research work entitled “Stone Age in Hoa Binh Province” published in 1927, Colani introduced the term “Hoa Binh Culture” to name this culture and it was officially accepted by scientists at the first Far East Prehistoric Institute Conference held in 1932.
